National Certificate / Extended Diploma in Mechanical Engineering- Level 3

Overview

This course is for learners wanting to progress to employment in mechanical engineering, such as mechanical maintenance technician.

Learners gain relevant skills and knowledge from studying a range of units. You will be assessed internally through assignments and tasks and externally by examination.

Modules include engineering principles, safety in engineering, engineering product design and manufacture, quality in engineering, maintenance of mechanical systems, CAD and fluid mechanics.

You will also undertake practical workshop skills in year 2 preparing you for industrial practices including bench fitting, working at height, permit to work procedures and confined space training.

This qualification will provide you with a range of transferable skills so that you can progress onto a range of our HE courses.

Past students have progressed onto the Higher National Certificate in Manufacturing Engineering at Middlesbrough College. After completing the Higher National Certificate students can progress onto the Higher National Diploma and then complete the BEng (Hons) Engineering top-up degree. 

You can progress on to the Level 4 HNC Mechanical Engineering dependent on the level of achievement and interview or study a Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Career opportunities include mechanical engineering, engineering technician, design and product development engineering and project control engineering.
